Living in Highbourne Cay

Hello, everyone! Once again, it's Maddy here in the beautiful Highbourne Cay. 6 days ago, we took off from the Land and Sea Park and rode another bumpy boat ride to another new island. It was Grandpa, Mamere, Mom, Emmy, and I at a nice little beach the first day.
The water here is bluer than the bluest and has a refreshing texture. We began to explore the island when we found a small little dock. We saw a sign that said " Beware of the Sharks ". I looked below the dock and saw right there, in the water, giant nurse sharks!

Nurse sharks can grow up to 14 feet and are non-aggressive. They also have no teeth. I guess the people who put the sign up didn't really know what they were talking about! Anyways, the next day was just the same, except I took close notice of the birds. Interesting fact #2: Half of the island of Highbourne Cay is a bird sanctuary. We saw lots of little black and white birds called bananaquits. We went to the beach again and saw a little general store. Grandpa and I walked in and saw the chips center. Prices over here are a bit different than back at my home in Florida, and America period. A small bag of chips is 1 dollar, but a "party size" bag is 10 dollars! We grabbed some ice cream instead. I got an ice cream sandwich. Every other day was about the same except we started taking walks on the docks at night. You can see the stars very well on the docks because the only lights are the small boat lights and the stars themselves.

After a cool night walk, we would usually get back to the Let it Go and go to sleep. I totally forgot about our meals! Every night was usually something different. Pork chops, steaks, fish, and lobster are usually common options. Yesterday was finally time for Mom and Emmy to fly back and leave me here. We woke up at about 8:00 in the morning and got ready. This airport was on tiny little island called Norman's Cay not too far from Highbourne. But how are they going to get there? We took them over on the dingy and wrapped their suitcase in trash bags so it wouldn't get wet.

When they were about to take off, I was a little sad because this was the first time Mom was leaving me for a long period of time. They took off and we walked back to the boat. I felt better immediately and I went on with my adventure. Can't wait for the next few weeks!
This guy has been waiting a long time for a bus!

  3. These look awesome! Is this what a typical day looks like at this point in your journey? How wonderful! Do you have some kind of guide with you that shows which constellations you're able to see at night? It would be fun to read the stories and myths about the constellations while you are actually able to see them in that beautifully clear dark night sky!
